Version 1.0

Coming soon to the Mac App Store

The first release. Everything on this website is in it:

  • Visual Planner: cards for scenes, chapters, characters, places and research on an open canvas, with connections, groups and properties.
  • Manuscript: a binder, editor, corkboard and outliner, split views, Composition mode, comments, footnotes, snapshots and revision colors.
  • Writer Timeline: the Plot Board, Chronology, Cast Map and tension curve.
  • Tasks and schedule: a task board, a calendar, a schedule with dependencies, and a Pomodoro timer.
  • Compile Studio: Manuscript, Paperback, E-book and Screenplay styles, exported as PDF, Word, EPUB, HTML, Markdown, LaTeX, RTF, ODT or plain text.
  • 29 templates for fiction, non-fiction, academic, student and script writing, plus demo projects.
  • Import from Word, OpenDocument, RTF, Scrivener and Obsidian.
  • Twelve themes, most in light and dark versions, a Theme Designer, and settings and themes you can share as files.
  • AI Connections, off by default: let Claude Code or Codex on your Mac work with the open project, read-only unless you allow changes.

TestFlight build

Writing and the editor

  • The line-number gutter no longer covers the start of your text.
  • Composition mode uses your chosen paper color and keeps the focus on the page.
  • New format bar menus for styles, fonts, sizes, colors and lists.
  • The editor side panel stays inside the window, and sections you use less start collapsed.
  • HTML cards open in a color-coded code editor that can export and print.
  • Convert to Note now makes a new note instead of changing the original.

Manuscript

  • Larger, labeled controls in the manuscript view, inspector and sidebar.
  • In a split manuscript, choosing an item in the outline opens it in the active pane.
  • Show on Canvas zooms to the card and highlights it for a moment.

Canvas and Writer Timeline

  • Hold Space, or drag with the middle mouse button, to pan.
  • The mouse wheel zooms and trackpad scrolling pans. You can change this in Settings.
  • Pinch and the ⌘ zoom keys work on the canvas and in the Writer Timeline.
  • Pressing Space no longer opens the card editor by accident.

Toolbars and menus

  • A new icon set across menus, toolbars and settings, with a monochrome option that applies everywhere.
  • Toolbar buttons show an icon above a label, and toolbars wrap onto a second row in narrow windows.
  • Right-click a toolbar to customize it, and drag items to reorder them.
  • One appearance setting controls all toolbars.
  • The top bar has View and Search menus, and an Alerts button that lists every task alert, with a count badge that turns orange when something is urgent.

Other improvements

  • The Pomodoro timer shows its state, elapsed time and progress.
  • Project search has scopes and closes with Esc.
  • Trash windows have the standard window buttons.
  • The Properties panel keeps its width.
